Being mentally strong means taking charge of your subconscious. Have you ever been so frustrated with your current life circumstances that you swear you will change overnight?

You begin the next day assuming the change took place while you were sleeping. By the end of the day, after the same problems crop up, and the same reactions to those problems bring the same unsatisfactory results…you realize your life did not change.

Your subconscious is playing tricks on you. You see, the subconscious is lazy. It operates solely upon the scripts your thoughts have fed it. Think about when you have doubts. You think the same thing over and over.

“I can’t do this.”

“I’m not experienced enough.”

“I’m not educated.”

So when you try and change, it resists because its mode of operation is based upon your habits, thoughts and fears in which it’s collected for years. 

When you allow your subconscious to rule your life, instead of ruling your subconscious, you cannot be mentally strong. You can’t attain goals, can’t break bad habits and begin to believe you can’t change.

Go back to zero, set goals, fix what went wrong and try again and again. The only time a failure is a loss is when you give up and don’t continue trying.

2. Mentally strong people take advantage of alone time.

Being alone and being lonely are not the same thing. Never confuse the two. Most lonely people feel lonely both when they’re alone as well as when they’re with people. Treat your alone time as a precious gift. Pray, meditate, rest, plan strategies for your business, evaluate and define your goals and pamper yourself.

3. Let go of the past.

There is a reason it’s called ‘past.’ It’s because that circumstance has passed. So leave it.

Whenever your mind tries to dwell on a particular past incident, release the negative feelings that memory holds and immerse yourself in your goals and daily responsibilities.

4. Reject all sense of entitlement.

Nobody owes you anything just because you have a traumatic past, are of a certain race or gender, or have a disability that your mind has told you can’t succeed with. Being mentally strong means you know you can succeed regardless of any obstacle, even disabilities.

Believe that you can and will, earn everything you possess. Doing anything other than that, is a blow to your ego. You are more than capable of making your own dreams come true if you’re willing to put in the work.

5. Never become dependent upon immediate gratification.

With modern technology, it’s so easy to become addicted to immediate gratification. You press a button and instantly have access to something, or instantly pay for an item, or instantly delete something.

Health, wealth and happiness are always interwoven with consistency, effort and relentless dedication. Don’t ever become impatient with your progress.

As long as each day, you make one tiny step toward whatever your goals are, you’re guaranteed to succeed eventually.

6. Please yourself, your family and your God.

This is a common pitfall for many. You don’t want to let anyone down, or be viewed negatively by anyone. The more you focus on this, the more you’ll find that you don’t please everyone.

Here is a secret: You never will. All this does is bring your self-worth down. Focus on YOU, and only you. Deep down, you know what’s best for you more than anyone else.

When you set and maintain your goals, it’s immediate reinforcement to your subconscious.

THIS is what builds your character, your strength and your success. Focus on YOU.

7. No self-pity.

Feeling sorry for yourself completely stagnates creativity. Usually self-pity sets in when you’ve tried something and failed, or when you’re comparing yourself to another’s successes.

When you work hard on something and it doesn’t work out, that is NOT failure! It’s actually success. Refer back to number 1.

8. Spend your time and energy on things you can change.

It is absolutely pointless to spend time trying to change things or people you have no control of. Things might change for a while, but you’ll be stuck in a repeating cycle of being satisfied because you changed them for a while and being frustrated because you lost control and things went back to what they were.

Change your outlook, your attitude, your thoughts, your reactions and your goals if you have to. Those are things that guarantee permanent results.

9. Base your self-worth upon your morals and values, not upon the opinions of others.

People are always going to talk, criticize and perhaps even insult. They’re only words, and these words certainly don’t define you. Don’t listen or believe them for one second.

You know exactly what your weaknesses and strengths are. Do you realize you can use both of them for your benefit? You can do this by combining your morals and values with both your strengths and weaknesses.

Use what you have, and know that deep down, you have everything you need to be successful.

10. Share other people’s successes instead of resenting them.

Even your greatest competition cannot stop you from your own success if you stay on track and never give up. When you see others succeed, never fill your mind with envious thoughts on whether you deserve it more than them.

Be happy for them. Congratulate them and recognize that if they can do it, so can you.

11. Do the most dreaded things first.

This is a little trick that has come in handy so many days. When you dread or procrastinate doing something, internally you’re battling your subconscious. There’s part of you saying ‘do it now,’ while another part of you is saying, ‘it can wait.’

This is exhausting mentally and physically. Take your most dreaded task of the day and dive into it first thing. When you’re done, regardless of how difficult, or emotional that task was, there’s a tiny part of your subconscious that’s puffed up in pride.

It makes all the other tasks you have lined up seem easy. Ride this wave of confidence and crush those other tasks.

12. Always be willing to take CALCULATED risks.

The definition of a calculated risk is “…associated with a certain course of action which has been given full consideration prior to making the decision to pursue that action. This is usually done when the potential gain is greater than any potential harm that might occur.
