6 Steps Successful Entrepreneurs Take to Dissolve Regret, Guilt or Anger

There’s nothing more distracting for successful entrepreneurs than trying to do business when you’re drowning in feelings of regret, guilt or anger. All of your energy goes into trying to suppress these feelings so you can focus on your work.

As hard as you try, in any given moment, negative thoughts sneak up and infiltrate your existence. They’re blocking you.  Successful entrepreneurs, mental skills, online business, stress, anger, guilt, regret, emotional distractions

A few weeks ago, my 21 year old son came to me and told me he was moving to Arkansas with his best friend and going to work with him. I didn’t take him seriously because he’s said this before. Less than 48 hours later, he was gone.

After 3 years of goofing off, taking side jobs, quitting college and just wandering aimlessly, he decided in the course of two days to grow up? HOW did this happen and where was I? It left me absolutely stunned. I’m still in shock.

I regret things I didn’t do, and things I did do.

I’m angry that he didn’t give me more notice.

I feel guilty wondering if I could have prepared him better.

And in the midst of all these emotions, I have deadlines and bills and two other children to care for.

If you’re human, you’ve carried these emotions at one point in your life. Successful entrepreneurs, however, have a secret. That secret is their mental strength. They’ve programmed their minds to accept, visualize, and release negative emotions quickly. It’s paramount to success. They cannot harbor these feelings and be laser focused at the same time.

It is absolutely true that if you’re harboring the aforementioned feelings, you’ve likely formed some negative core beliefs.

At the very least, these feelings have taken up residence in your subconscious mind and are literally sucking your creative energy. There is nothing creative, productive or monetary about negative feelings. So the trick is to find the mental strength, or skill to diffuse them and diversify them IN to your creativity.

It sounds way more complicated than it really is.

What if I told you there’s a process to completely eliminate these negative feelings altogether? And it only takes a few minutes.

You don’t have time? You’d rather continue harboring unproductive feelings than take 10 minutes to banish them completely?

This is the mental skill that successful entrepreneurs do naturally.

This is a very valuable mental skill that is easy to grasp and you’ll find, in time that it’s an asset for your business.

1. Pin the Tail on That Donkey!

First, identify that feeling that crowds your subconscious when you’re trying to move forward, make more money, reach a goal, break a habit, establish a new habit, etc.

Is it anger? Guilt? Regret? Pinpoint the exact feeling.

If you’re feeling a multitude of feelings, choose the one that’s the ‘loudest.’

2. Remember When…

So usually, that feeling is attached to one primary experience, or memory. There’s likely several, but dig deep and find the primary memory the feeling is attached to.

This, right here, is the center of your negative core belief and it’s exactly what’s holding you back right now.

3. Go There!

Yes, I’m serious. Sit here, right now, and remember every single thing you can about that memory.

What was the temperature? Time? What did it smell like? Did you have a certain taste in your mouth? Pull as much of this memory into your conscious mind as possible. Keep going…and going…and feeling.

Now, focus on that negative feeling it’s triggering. Our ‘fight or flight’ response will subconsciously try and suppress this feeling. Don’t allow this to happen. Stay focused and continue trying to really feel this emotion as if it’s happening right now.

It may hurt, or even bring a surge of rage, nausea, or several other reactions. Let them all come up until you think every single ounce of the emotion is at the surface of your conscious mind.

Take your time. Sometimes this takes a minute, and other times it can take several minutes.

4.  Apply the Entrepreneur’s Visualization Technique

When you’re sure you’ve pulled every ounce of feeling this memory has, keep your eyes closed and remain focused.

Now, picture a big, bright helium balloon in your mind. Take this feeling, any of the negative aspects of the memory and place it all into this balloon. Tie a knot to seal everything inside.

Now release the balloon into the air. If you like, picture yourself throwing it way up into the air.

Do NOT stop here! Follow through to the finish line!

5. Out of Sight, Out of Mind…Literally!

This is where I first went wrong when I started doing this awesome technique. I stopped as soon as I let the balloon go. Often, that negative feeling would come back. Perhaps not right away, but it always would crop back up.

Picture it gradually drifting further and further out of sight. Watch it until it completely disappears. This is very important. By doing this, it sends your subconscious mind the message that the ‘icky’ feeling is GONE. Your brain watched it drift away.

Call it a mind trick, a psychological trigger…whatever you like. The bottom line, however, is that the feeling that has been weighing heavily on you and standing in the way of your accomplishments is GONE. There really is something powerful about that saying, ‘out of sight, out of mind!’

6. Stake Your Claim!

Let’s get back to that plan, goal, project…whatever it was that you originally set out to accomplish before this negative thought so rudely interrupted.

But now, there isn’t a negative memory or feeling lingering anymore. Remember? You WATCHED it dissipate. Somehow, this signals your subconscious that the coast is clear and it can now focus on ‘the goal’ because there’s no memory, feeling or negative belief crowding your mind.

What exactly is that goal? Put it into words. Now, you’re simply going to claim it. You’re going to [consciously] tell your subconscious that you are GOING to do this. This is your new positive core belief, and this is what successful entrepreneurs rely upon in reaching all of their aspirations.

Continue to do this. The more you practice it, the more powerful, and immediate it becomes.
And remember to lay out a step by step plan of action directed at your goal.

Hi Lynn, your latest FB entry led me to searching for your blog…I read about the helium balloon on Facebook too. This is so excellent, and I am learning more and more how powerful the subconscious mind is! I hope you are doing better since Drew left…it is an awful experience when a son leaves home. Just keep doing what you are doing and spreading the Light! God bless, Lea T. 🙂
